ABOUT Ela ada RECIPE

Ela ada is an awesome and a very traditional delicacy of Kerala. This is a very easy, yummy & a healthy snack that can be prepared in minutes. In this recipe, the rice flour paste is patted on the banana leaf & jaggery & coconut mixture is sprinkled on it & closed & steamed in a steamer or on idly moulds. My mom has been following this recipe for more than 30 years. She has learnt it from her mom & she makes it just the way our ancestors do it. Try it out & see how it melts in your mouth.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Rice flour 11/2 cups
  2. Water 31/2 tbsp
  3. Grated jaggery 2 cups
  4. Shredded coconut 3 cups

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, add rice flour & add water to it & make a fine paste.
  2. Take a banana leaf & pat the rice paste on it like a thin layer.
  3. Sprinkle the shredded coconut over it, followed by the grated jaggery.
  4. Fold the banana leaf. Repeat this on all the banana leaves till the rice flour paste is over.
  5. Steam these for 10 minutes by placing them on the idly moulds or in a steamer.
  6. Serve these with your evening tea.
