ABOUT Khaman Dhokla RECIPE

A very authentic and soft, melting in the mouth. (No onion/No garlic)

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 3 cups split bengal gram
  2. 2 tsp green chillies
  3. 1 tbsp salt
  4. 1 tbsp sugar
  5. 1 tsp Salt
  6. 1 tsp turmeric powder
  7. 1 tsp Fruit salt
  8. For Tempering:
  9. 1 tbsp mustard seeds
  10. 1 tbsp green chili slices
  11. A pinch of Asafoetida
  12. 2 tsp curry leaves
  13. 1 tbsp dry coconut powder


  1. Soak the split bengal gram in sufficient water overnight.
  2. In the morning, in a mixer jar, add the soaked split bengal gram, green chillies, salt, sugar and 2 to 3 tbsp water and make thick paste.
  3. Add turmeric powder, fruit salt and 1 tsp water in it and mix it well again.
  4. Pour the batter into oil greased plate of steamer and steam it for 10 minutes. Allow it to come down to room temperature.
  5. In a frying pan, add 2 tsp of oil, mustard seeds and once it tempered, add asafoetida, curry leaves. Sprinkle on the dhokla.
  6. Cut into pieces and sprinkle some water on it.
  7. Garnish it with coriander leaves and coconut powder and serve it with dates chutney.
