ABOUT Broken wheat Pongal RECIPE

Its a traditional power packed breakfast made in south indian homes with broken wheat and split moong dhal in no time.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Broken Wheat 1 cup
  2. Split yellow moong dhal 1 cup
  3. Pepper 1 tsp
  4. Cumin 1 tsp
  5. Ginger half inch grated
  6. Cashew 5 broken
  7. Curry leaves fee
  8. Ghee 2 Tbsp
  9. salt as needed
  10. Water 6 cups

Instructions

  1. Soak broken wheat and split yellow moong dhal in water for 10 mins .
  2. Remove the soaked water and add the dhal wheat mixture to a pressure cooker ,now add salt and 6 cups of water to it. Its 1:3 ratio. (As we added 1 cup of broken wheat and 1 cup of split yellow moong dhal we need add 6 cups of waters.)
  3. Pressure cook for 10 mins in medium flame or until you get 5 whistles and switch off the flame.
  4. Meanwhile for tempering , in a kadai add ghee and when it's hot add cumin , pepper, grated ginger , cashews and give it a good mix , after one minute add curry leaves and switch off the flame.
  5. When the pressure subsides open the cooker and add the tempering to the pongal and check for salt then give a good mix ,serve when hot with sambar or coconut chutney.
