ABOUT Pepper Mushroom South Indian Style RECIPE

A South Indian style mushroom recipe spiced with freshly grounded spices where black pepper is the key ingredient. One of my favourite vegetarian dish. Quick and easy to prepare and taste delicious. A perfect winter food. This can be had as a starter or as a side dish wirh piping hot steamed rice and dal. Learn gow to make mushroom pepper south indian style with step by step pictures.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Mushrooms – 250 gms cut into cubes
  2. Onions – 1 medium finely chopped
  3. Tomato – 1 medium finely chopped
  4. Ginger garlic paste – 1 tsp
  5. Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
  6. Chili powder – ½ tsp
  7. Garam masala – 1 tsp
  8. Oil – 3 tbsp
  9. Curry leaves – 1 sprig
  10. Few chopped coriander leaves
  11. For roasting and grinding: Dry red chillies – 4
  12. Peppercorns – 1½ tbsp
  13. Fennel seeds – ½ tsp
  14. Coriander seeds – ½ tsp
  15. Cumin seeds – ½ tsp

Instructions

  1. In a pan add the dry red chilies, peppercorns, fennel seeds, cumin seeds, coriander seeds and dry roast them till the raw smell goes off. Let it cool down and grind them to a fine powder.
  2. Heat the oil in a pan. Add half of the curry leaves, onions and ginger garlic paste and saute them till the onions turn soft.
  3. Add the tomatoes and saute them till they become mushy. Add the turmeric powder, red chili powder, salt, garam masala and saute for a min.
  4. Add mushrooms and saute till the water released by mushroom dries up which might take approx 10 mins.
  5. Add the grounded masala powder and the left over curry leaves. Stir well till the masala get blend nicely with mushroom.
  6. Fry for about 5 mins and add chopped coriander leaves, give a quick stir and take off the heat.
  7. Enjoy!
