ABOUT Crunchy Canopies with toffee sauce RECIPE

Crispy fried bread stuffed with khoya, dipped in delicious home made toffee sauce.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Bread slices - 6
  2. Refined oil as required
  3. For the sweet khoya: Milk Powder - 1 cup
  4. Melted butter/ghee - 1/4 cup
  5. Milk - 1/4 cup
  6. Sugar - 4 tbsp
  7. For the toffee sauce : Sugar - 1 cup
  8. Water 3-4 tbsp
  9. Cream - 1/2 cup

Instructions

  1. To make the khoya, mix the milk powder, melted ghee and milk to form a paste.
  2. Heat this in microwave for 2 minutes by stirring it after every 30 seconds. Once it thickens and gives the khoya texture, add the sugar and repeat the procedure for another 2 minutes. Keep aside to cool a bit.
  3. Now cut the sides of the bread slices, and roll them with a rolling pin. Stuff the khoya inside and seal the sides using very little oil.
  4. Deep fry these canopies in refined oil. Keep aside.
  5. Make the toffee sauce: Heat the sugar and water together. Once it starts caramelising, add the cream and stir. Stir for a minute and turn off the flame.
  6. Serve the canopies with the sauce.
