ABOUT Fish with curry leaves paste(noro-singho masor jhol) RECIPE

Noro singho masor jhol is a comfort dish from my state Assam. It is local fish dish made with curry leaves ( Assamese called it Noro hingho) and green chilli paste and any kind of fresh river fish. I made this curry with fresh rahu fish.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Rahu fish individual pieces 6 or any other fish
  2. Curry leaves 1 bunch
  3. Green chilli 2
  4. Black pepeercorns 4-5
  5. Dry red chilli 2-3
  6. Garlic pods 3-4
  7. Mustard oil 2 tablespoon
  8. salt as per taste
  9. Turmeric powder 1/3rd teaspoon

Instructions

  1. Wash and clean fish pieces properly.
  2. With salt and 1/3rd teaspoon of turmeric merinade fish pieces and keep aside for 10 minutes.
  3. Heat a pan with 1 tablespoon of mustard oil and fry the fish pieces lightly(2-3 minutes).
  4. Transfer the fish pieces to a plate.
  5. Make a green paste with a handful of curry leaves, green chillis , black pepper corns and little water.
  6. Heat again 1 tablespoon of mustard oil in a pan.
  7. Add 2 dry red chilli and crushed garlic in the hot oil.
  8. Stir and add the green paste.
  9. Fry for a minute or two and add salt.
  10. Add 1/2 cup of warm water and bring to boil.
  11. Add fish pieces and simmer for 7-8 minutes.
  12. Check seasoning and consistently of the gravy before removing from heat. Add water if necessary.
  13. Serve with steaming rice.
