About Dal Sultani Recipe

It's basically Awadhi style cuisine , prepared for the Nawabs . This dal is very rich , aromatic and smooth in texture . It can served with rice , any kind of roti or parathas .

Dal Sultani

Ingredients to make Dal Sultani

  • 1/2 cup toor dal
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 3 pods garlic crushed
  • 1 tea spoon whole cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tea spoon turmeric powder
  • 2 green chillies chopped
  • 1/2 tea spoon asafoetida
  • 2 table spoon clarified butter
  • 1 table spoon oil
  • 1/4 cup curd
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 red chillies
  • Little coriander leaves
  • 1 piece of charcoal
  • Few strands of saffron in 1 table spoon of milk
  • 1 tea spoon garam masala
  • Little fresh cream

How to make Dal Sultani

  1. pressure cook the dal with little salt and turmeric powder
  2. These are the other ingredients
  3. Heat ghee and oil in kadai add cumin seeds and asafoetida
  4. Add onion , garlic and green chilly and saute for some time till it becomes little soft
  5. Add the boiled dal and cook for some time
  6. When it will start boiling add milk and mix it
  7. Add beaten curd and stir slowly in low flame
  8. Add salt if necessary
  9. Now add saffron with the milk and garam masala
  10. Cook for few seconds
  11. Burn the charcoal and put a bowl into the kadai
  12. Put the burnt charcoal in the bowl add half a tea spoon of ghee on it and cover the kadai with a lid
  13. Put off the gas and let it be covered till the smoke is absorbed into the dal
  14. Take a tarka pan put little ghee fry the red chillies and pour it on the dal
  15. It's ready to serve

My Tip:

You can add whole garam masala
