Paturi means leaf. ....Hilsa fish cooked in banana leaf on its own juices ..One of the best dish of bengali cuisine. ..I rather call it NATIONAL DISH OF BENGAL. ...The name of the dish itself will make any bengali babu jump on its feet :grinning:

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Hilsa fish pieces -4
  2. Coconut scraped-1/2
  3. Yellow mustard -2tbspn
  4. Black mustard -2tbspn
  5. Poppy seeds-2tbspn
  6. Green chillies
  7. Turmeric powder -2tbspn
  8. Red chilli powder -2tbspn
  9. Salt
  10. Sugar -1/2tbspn
  11. Mustard oil
  12. banana leaves
  13. Strings

Instructions

  1. Clean the fish pieces and keep aside.
  2. Add turmeric powder, salt to the fish and marinate for at least 15 mints.
  3. Make a paste of both mustard seeds ,poppy seeds,coconut and 2 green chillies and keep aside.
  4. Now add turmeric powder,red chilli powder,salt,sugar and mustard oil into the paste .mix it well and keep aside.
  5. Clean the leaves with a wet towel and warm a bit over the gas on both sides . (This will prevent the leaf from breaking )
  6. Take a leaf and place a fish piece in middle of the leaf and apply the paste all over it on both sides.add a spoonful of mustard oil over it and place a whole green chilli over it .
  7. Now tie the leaf tightly with a string ...keep repeating until finished.
  8. Steam the fish pieces in a steamer or microwave for at least 15 mints .
  9. In a pan add few drops of mustard oil and Fry the wraps for 5 mints on both sides.
  10. Serve them with hot piping steam rice. :relaxed:
