Small Potato Fry (Urulai Vathakal)

Ingredients to make Small Potato Fry (Urulai Vathakal)

  • Baby potato 250 g
  • Gingelly oil and refined oil for frying
  • chilly powder 1 tablespoon
  • turmeric powder 1 teaspoon
  • Red Chillies 3 nos small
  • curry leaves - few
  • cumin seeds 1 teaspoon
  • mustard seeds 1 teaspoon
  • hing 1 pinch

How to make Small Potato Fry (Urulai Vathakal)

  1. Heat a pan with water, as the water reaches boiling point, add the peeled baby potatoes with a pinch of turmeric powder and salt
  2. As baby are half boiled strain the water.
  3. Heat the oil in a pan for frying. As the oil heats put mustard, cumin seeds and red chillies, as it changes colour, put the half boiled potatoes. Potatoes should turn golden brown.
  4. As it turns golden brown, take them off heat. Strain the oil so that it can be used later.
  5. Now in that frying pan, add the strained potatoes, turmeric powder, chilly powder, salt, hing and curry leaves. Toss it well and serve.

My Tip:

Goes well with curd rice, all varieties of rice and rasam.
