Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. For the Kesari Halwa:
  2. Rava - 1/2 cup
  3. Oats - 1/2 cup
  4. Sugar - 1/2 cup
  5. Milk - 3 cups
  6. Cardamom- 1 tsp
  7. Ghee - 2 tbsp
  8. Kesar - few strands (soaked in milk)
  9. Dates - 20
  10. For the batter:
  11. Besan/ Chickpea flour- 1 cup
  12. Rice flour - 1/4th cup
  13. Chilli powder- 1 tsp
  14. Salt - as per taste
  15. Water - to make the batter


  1. Powder the oats coarsely. Also dry roast the rava and keep it aside.
  2. Boil milk in a pan, then mix in the rava, oats and sugar into the boiling milk. Keep stirring till it thickens.
  3. Add the ghee and cardamom powder. Finally add the soaked kesar. Keep it aside to cool.
  4. Slit the dates neatly and remove the seeds. Stuff approximately 1 tsp of kesari halwa inside each date. Similarly stuff all the dates and keep it aside.
  5. Mix the besan, rice flour, chilli powder and salt. Add adequate water to form a batter, then dip the stuffed dates into the batter and deep fry till it's golden brown in colour.
  6. The dates kesari bhajji is ready to be served. Serve it hot with tomato sauce.
