Chinese Idli

Ingredients to make Chinese Idli

  • Suji/ semolina- 1 cup
  • oil- 1 and 1/2 tbsp
  • salt- 3/4 tsp
  • curd- 1 cup
  • Eno- 1 tsp
  • water- 1/2 cup (approximately)
  • Chinese Tadka Ingredients:
  • oil- 3 tbsp
  • garlic-1 tbsp chopped and crushed
  • red chilli paste- 1/2 tsp
  • 1 small sized onion- cut into half and then into thin half rings (julienned)
  • cabbage- 1/2 cup shredded
  • carrot- 1/4 cup shredded
  • cloves- 2 crushed
  • tomato puree- 3 tbsp
  • tomato ketchup- 1 tbsp
  • red chilli sauce- 1 tbsp
  • Soya sauce- 1- 1/2 tsp
  • pepper- 1/4 tsp
  • salt- 1/2 tsp

How to make Chinese Idli

  1. To prepare the idlis, mix the suji and curd with enough water to make a thick pouring consistency batter.
  2. Add 1 tsp oil and salt to taste, mix it well and keep it aside for 10-15 minutes. Now add 1 tsp of eno, mix it properly and pour it into lined/ greased idli moulds.
  3. To cook it in a microwave, add 1/4 cup of water in a micro safe bowl. Put idli stand in it with the cover for 3 minutes. The idlis are ready!
  4. To prepare the chinese tadka, heat 3 tbsp oil in pan, then add in the garlic and red chilli paste. Stir for a minute till it's fragrant.
  5. Add the onion and stir fry till the onions turn golden in colour. Next add in the capsicum and carrot. Stir fry for 2 minutes. Then add the cabbage and stir for a few seconds.
  6. Lower the heat. Then add in the cloves, tomato puree, ketchup, red chilli sauce, soya sauce, pepper and salt. Cook for 1 minute on a low heat.
  7. Cut the 8-10 idlis into 4 pieces each and add it to the sauces. Stir fry for a minute. Adjust the salt and sauce as per taste.
  8. Serve it hot.
