Kozhukkattai (Sweet Rice Dumplings)

Ingredients to make Kozhukkattai (Sweet Rice Dumplings)

  • Rice flour: 2 Cups
  • Grated coconut:- 1 and 1/2 cup
  • Grated jaggery:- 1/2 - 1 cup
  • cardamom Powder:- 1 tsp
  • ghee:- 1 tsp
  • water:- 2 and 1/2 cup
  • salt:- a pinch

How to make Kozhukkattai (Sweet Rice Dumplings)

  1. Sieve the flour to remove the larger sized lumps. Then add salt, ghee, water and boil it.
  2. Pour this water into the rice powder and knead well to make smooth dough, without any lumps. Now make big lemon sized balls out of this dough.
  3. Next, mix in the grated jaggery, coconut, cardamom powder and set it aside.
  4. Spread a little oil on your palm and take a ball of dough and flatten it slightly. Put a spoonful of the mixture in this and secure all the sides and roll it lightly. Prepare the entire balls using the rest of the dough.
  5. Steam the kozhukkattas (in an idiyappam / idly maker) till they are done and serve them warm.

My Tip:

Instead of ghee, you can add a teaspoon of oil as well. This will make the dough soft and smooth. Keep the dough covered with a wet cloth all the time, to avoid the dough from drying out.
