ABOUT Yaksik- South Korean Dessert RECIPE

Yaksik is a traditional South korean snack or dessert, made by sweet/small rice, nuts and jujubes (korean red dates). Yaksik is Yak-medicine, sik-food from the ingredient-Honey. It is often served at wedding and parties.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. 1 cup sweet small sticky rice/ Govind bhog (soaked for 4-5 hours)
  2. 2/3 cup brown sugar/plain sugar
  3. 3 tbsp honey
  4. 3 tbsp soy sauce
  5. 1/2 tsp salt
  6. 1 tsp cinnamon powder
  7. 15 peeled chestnut (chopped)
  8. 15 jujubes red dates (chopped in rounds)
  9. 1/4 cup pine nuts (chopped)
  10. 2 tbsp walnuts (chopped)
  11. 2 tbsp raisin
  12. 2 tbs dry cranberries
  13. Cheese cloth/lint free cloth
  14. Rice steamer

Instructions

  1. Ready the steamer for the rice, then take the rice in a cheese cloth and put it in the steamer to steam.
  2. Heat a sauce pan and melt in the brown sugar, once melted, add in the soy sauce, salt and honey. Now add in the dry fruits and mix it well.
  3. Now check the rice, mix it up and down with the help of a spatula.
  4. Once the rice is cooked, mix the dry fruits mixture in this. Mix it well and steam again for 15 mins.
