Dadpe Pohe

Ingredients to make Dadpe Pohe

  • Beaten rice / Poha - 250 gms
  • Fresh coconut - 1/2 cup, grated
  • Freshly Squeezed lemon Juice - 3 tbspns
  • Fresh coriander Leaves - a handful, finely chopped
  • Refined Veg Oil / Extra Virgin olive Oil - 1 tbspn
  • mustard seeds - 1 tspn
  • curry leaves - 7-8
  • green chillies - 2-3, slit
  • Powdered asafoetida / Hing - a pinch
  • sugar - 3/4 th tspn
  • salt - to taste
  • water - 1/4 th cup

How to make Dadpe Pohe

  1. Wash the poha / pohe in a colander,under running cold water, briskly running your hands through it.
  2. Sprinkle 1/4 th cup water and gently mix in and leave the pohe to drain in the colander for five minutes.
  3. Take a mixing bowl, add the soaked pohe, the chopped coriander leaves, the coconut, sugar and salt to taste.
  4. Add the freshly squeezed lemon juice on top and gently toss all the ingredients together.
  5. Heat oil, give a tadka of hing, mustard seeds, curry leaves and the slit green chillies till it starts to sizzle.
  6. Pour this sizzling tadka over the Pohe mix.
  7. Gently mix in.
  8. Pack in the lunchboxes.
  9. Stays good for a couple of hours.

My Tip:

You can add boiled peas, lightly steamed and finely chopped/ grated carrots or beetroots to the dish to make it more nutritious and add to the colour and flavours of the dish.
