Gurr Dhaani

Ingredients to make Gurr Dhaani

  • Whole wheat grains 1/2 kg
  • Gurr or jaggery 1/2 kg
  • Dried ginger powder 1tbls

How to make Gurr Dhaani

  1. Soak the wheat grains for 22 hrs.
  2. Then drain the grains in a strainer for 2 hrs
  3. Dry roast the grains in a kadai on medium heat. In our childhood, we used to go the bhaad (the Indian brick oven) to get the wheat roasted.
  4. Roast till the wheat kernels turn golden brown or till they open up
  5. Put off the heat and add jaggery already broken into small pieces (you may grate jaggery or break in a mortar). add ginger powder
  6. set mixture into a springform tin as I do for my comfort.
  7. After cooling for an hour, turn it over a plate and enjoy eating this traditional dish

My Tip:

You may heat your pan while turning over this dish from the pan.
