Mahali Pickle (Sarasaparilla pickle)

Ingredients to make Mahali Pickle (Sarasaparilla pickle)

  • 500 gms of mahali root
  • 2 tbsp of mustard seeds ground to paste
  • 10 to 15 green chilles cut into one inch pieces
  • 200 gms of ginger cut into small pieces
  • 8 lemons cut into mall pieces
  • Juice of 5 lemons
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • salt to taste
  • 250 gms of curd preferably home made

How to make Mahali Pickle (Sarasaparilla pickle)

  1. Remove the skin of the mahali root,r remove inside bark of the root which is hard
  2. Cut into small pieces
  3. Mix ginger ,green chillies,mahali pieces, lemon pieces,mustard sauce,turmeric ,salt and whisked curd and lemon juice
  4. Keep it for two to three days. Use
  5. When ever you use,take a little in cup and add fresh whisked curd or thick butter milk
  6. It can be kept for 1 to 2 years. Keeps fresh when refrigerated

My Tip:

This pickle is green.some people add red chilli powder instead of green chilles
