Ghee Mangsho/Ghee Mutton

Ingredients to make Ghee Mangsho/Ghee Mutton

  • Mutton 500gm
  • Big size onion 3(1 chopped, and 2 made into a paste)
  • ginger 60gm
  • garlic 2-3 pods
  • curd 200 gm
  • sugar as needed
  • salt as needed
  • Green chilies 3-4
  • Kashmiri mirch 1tbspn
  • Whole garam masala 1tbsp
  • bay leaves - 2
  • ghee 50 gm
  • Raw papaya paste

How to make Ghee Mangsho/Ghee Mutton

  1. Wash mutton well under running water.Drain completely.Marinate the mutton pieces with curd,onion paste,juice of ginger and garlic,sugar,salt,raw papaya paste and green chilli paste. Refrigerate it overnight.
  2. Take a kadai,add ghee
  3. Add bay leaves, 1/2 tsp sugar,chopped onion,whole garam masala
  4. Saute for sometime until golden brown
  5. Then keep aside
  6. In the same ghee add mutton pieces,stir gently and simmer on a low flame.
  7. Add some warm water to it. add kashmiri mirch powder,check the salt and cover with a lid
  8. Cook until mutton pieces become soft and gravy thickens
  9. Lastly, add that onion masala and stir very well.
  10. Again cook for 3/4 minutes
  11. Serve mutton with luchi,paratha or rice
  12. Top the ghee mutton with some ghee while serving.

My Tip:

Just before you prepare the other ingredients keep the mutton out of the refrigerator.It helps it to come down to room temperature before cooking.
