Channa dal pops. A super winter teatime snack . Serve along with masala chai.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. 1 cup Channa dal ( split Bengal gram)
  2. 1 pinch Asafoetida
  3. 5 cloves garlic
  4. 1 tablespoon grated ginger
  5. 4 green chillies
  6. 1 teaspoon salt
  7. 1/2 teaspoon baking soda ( optional)
  8. Oil for deep frying


  1. Soak the channa dal for two hours.
  2. Grind the soaked dal in a mixer grinder along with ginger , garlic and green chillies.
  3. Try to add minimum amount of water.
  4. Add the salt and the asafoetida. Whip till fluffy. Here you may add the baking soda if you wish.
  5. Heat oil in a kadai.
  6. Spoon in the dal mixture into hot oil and fry till light brown.
  7. Drain on absorbent kitchen towel. Serve hot with green chutney and hot masala Chai.
