Bombay Karachi Halwa

Ingredients to make Bombay Karachi Halwa

  • Corn flour 1/2cup
  • sugar 1 cup
  • water 1 and 1/2 cup
  • Food color 1/8th sp
  • cardamom powder 1/4sp
  • Dry fruits 2-3 tbsp
  • lime juice 2 tsp
  • ghee 4 tbsp

How to make Bombay Karachi Halwa

  1. In a bowl take corn flour, add 1 cup water and mix without lumps and keep aside.
  2. In a pan, mix sugar with remaining 1/2 cup water.
  3. Cook till the sugar dissloves. No need for a string consistency syrup. Add lime juice and mix it
  4. Give the corn flour solution another mix as the flour will settle at the bottom and add it to the sugar syrup and add food color and mix well.
  5. Boil over high flame, while stirring till it is bubbling away. It will initially look like milk. Upon further boiling, it will become glassy and then transparent.
  6. Cook over low flame, add 2 tblsp ghee and stir well. Add cardamom powder, cashew nuts and mix well.Add remaining 2 tbsp ghee and mix well.
  7. Cook till it all comes together in a mass and begins to pull away from the sides and the ghee separates. Place a drop of halwa on a plate and when you can make a ball from it, thats the right consistency.
  8. Spread on a greased plate. Let it cool down (at least for 1hr) and come to room temperature. Cut them into desired shape with a sharp knife and serve
