Saag Murg

Ingredients to make Saag Murg

  • 1 kg spinach
  • 1/2 kg chicken boneless or with bone
  • 3 medium sized chopped onions
  • 3 medium sized chopped tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp ginger garlic pastels
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2-3 nos cloves
  • 1 small stick of cinamon
  • 2-3 green cardamom
  • 1/2 tsp fennel
  • 3 TBSP HUNG curd
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp black peper
  • lemon juice
  • 1tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tbsp tandoori chicken masala
  • 1/2 tsp chat masala
  • 2 -3 tbsp fresh cream
  • ginger juliens

How to make Saag Murg

  1. For Marination
  2. wash the chicken and pat dry
  3. Squeeze one lemon to it and add salt and red chilli and keep it aside for 4-5 hrs .
  4. Cook it in a oven or air fryer and keep aside
  5. For Gravy-
  6. Take a heavy bottom kadhai and add 1tbsp of ghee .
  7. Add all dry spices exept fennel .
  8. Add chopped onions .
  9. Saute it till golden brown.
  10. Add chopped tomatoes .
  11. Saute it till it leaves the surface of kadhai.
  12. Transfer it to a jar and blend it into a smooth paste .
  13. Keep it aside .
  14. Blanch the spinach leaves and then strain it through cold water .
  15. Blend it into a smooth paste .
  16. Heat 1tbsp ghee in a khadai and add fenugreek seeds to it .
  17. Now add spinach paste and let it simmer for 15 -18 mins .
  18. Now add tomato paste to it , let it cook for 4-5 min .
  19. Now add griled or roasted chicken pieces to it and let it simmer for 8- 10 min .
  20. Now add 2-3 tbsp of cream and mix .
  21. Garnish it with ginger juliens and cream on top .

My Tip:

Cooking tomatoes and spinach separately retains the green colour of spinach
