Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Mackerel fish or any fish of ur choice -1/2 kg
  2. Shallots. 15-20 no
  3. Medium sized ripe tomato finely chopped 1/2 cup
  4. Lemon size Tamarind soaked in hot water
  5. Chilli powder 4 tsp
  6. Coriander powder 4 tsp
  7. Turmeric powder 1 tsp
  8. Salt to taste
  9. Raw mango pieces 3
  10. Oil to saute
  11. To Temper
  12. Mustard seeds 1 tsp
  13. Cumin seeds 1 tsp
  14. Fenugreek 1/4 tsp
  15. Curry Leaves 2 Sprig
  16. Garlic cloves crushed 5-6


  1. Clean the fish and marinate with salt and turmeric powder.
  2. Extract juice from the tamarind.
  3. Heat a wok preferably a mud pot and add oil. Add the ingredients for tempering.
  4. Add the shallots and saute until translucent.
  5. Add the tomatoes and close the wok and cook until the tomatoes turn mushy.
  6. Next add the tamarind extract and allow to boil. Once it starts boiling add chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder and salt.
  7. Once the raw smell of the masala and tamarind goes add the fish fillet and mango and cook for three to four minutes.
  8. Your manga meen kozhambu is ready to be served.
