ABOUT Masoor Khatti Meethi RECIPE

Our favourite whole masoor tastes wonderful with a tang of sweet with some jaggery added while cooking. The blend of onion tomatoes and spices add to the taste and the sweet and sour masoor tastes great. It's a Kokani style masoor.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 100 grams whole masoor dal
  2. 2 medium tomatoes
  3. 1 medium onion
  4. 1 small piece Jaggery
  5. 1 tspn ginger garlic paste
  6. Salt to taste
  7. 1/2 tspn garam masala
  8. 1 tspn red chilli Kashmiri powder
  9. 1/4 tspn turmeric
  10. 1 tspn cumin coriander
  11. 1 tblspn pure ghee
  12. Coriander to garnish


  1. Wash soak masoor for 15 min before making
  2. Chop onion and tomatoes fine
  3. Keep ready all dry masala and heat ghee in pressure cooker
  4. Saute onions golden and add the tomatoes with all seasoning
  5. Add ginger garlic with tomatoes to avoid sticking roast well
  6. Add the piece of jaggery now
  7. Add soaked dal and pressure cook for 15 min
  8. Open cooker after 5 minutes to let the aroma stay
  9. Remove to serve and garnish with coriander
