ABOUT Methi Chi Paatal Bhaaji (Maharashtrian Sabji) RECIPE

Finely Chopped Fenugreek leaves blended with Chana dal flour and seasoned with whole red chilly and Garlic tadka.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Methi /Fenugreek leaves washed and chopped 4 cups
  2. Chana Dal flour 1 cup
  3. Water 2 to 4 cups
  4. Salt to taste
  5. Jaggery or Gud 1 tablespoon
  6. Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon
  7. Red chilly powder 1 to 2 teaspoons
  8. Garlic crushed 8 to 10 cloves
  9. Whole red chilly 4 to 5
  10. Oil 1 tablespoon
  11. Roasted peanuts 1 tablespoon
  12. Asafoetida 1/4 teaspoons
  13. Mustard seeds 1 to 2 teaspoons

Instructions

  1. Wash methi leaves.
  2. Chop very very finely.
  3. Add chana dal flour, salt, asafoetida, red chilly powder and turmeric powder. .
  4. Add some water and mix well without lumps.
  5. Cook it on low heat with constant stirring.
  6. Add jaggery and peanuts at this stage and cook.
  7. Now heat oil in a pan and prepare tadka by adding Mustard seeds, when they sputter add asafoetida 1 pinch,haldi powder, red chilly powder, crushed garlic and whole red chilly,sauté little and switch off the heat
  8. Pour the ready tadka on cooked bhaji.Mix well and cook again for some time.
  9. Paatal bhaji is ready to serve with pulka, chapati or steamed rice
