Som Tum or Green Papaya Salad

Ingredients to make Som Tum or Green Papaya Salad

  • 1-2 medium sized tomatoes
  • 1 small green papaya
  • 2 green chillies
  • 2 orange carrots
  • 1 cup finely slivered cabbage
  • 1 cup fresh cucumber
  • Lettuce 1 cup
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 2 Tbsp salted peanuts
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/4 cup lime juice
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

How to make Som Tum or Green Papaya Salad

  1. First prepare the sauce for the salad. Add garlic, chillies, sugar, salt and pepper, soy sauce and lime juice into a mortor and pestle and pulse it roughly
  2. Peel the carrots and cut them into fine shreds. Similarly do it for the Papaya and Cabbage. Roughly chop the tomatoes and cucumber
  3. Add all these vegetables in a large mixing bowl. Add the sauce and toss the veggies.
  4. Serve on a large plate over a bed of lettuce and garnish with peanuts and more lemon Wedges.
