ABOUT Bengali Cat Fish ( Tangra Mach ) Onion Curry . RECIPE

This is one of the traditional recipe of Bengali Cuisine . The main ingredient is Cat Fish , which in Bengali we call "Tangra Mach" which is cooked with basic Indian Spices and lots of onions and ginger garlic paste .

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Cat fish ( Tangra ) - 500 grams
  2. Diced brinjals - 100 grams
  3. Chopped large Onion - 2 numbers
  4. Ginger Garlic Paste - 2 tablespoons.
  5. Chopped medium Tomatoes - 2 numbers
  6. Green chilli - 5 numbers
  7. Nigella Seeds - 1 teaspoon
  8. Turmeric powder - 1 teaspoon
  9. Red chilli powder - 1 teaspoon
  10. Kashmiri red chilli powder - 1 teaspoon
  11. Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  12. Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  13. Salt to taste
  14. Sugar - half teaspoon
  15. Mustard oil - 10 tablespoons.
  16. Coriander leaf chopped - 2 teaspoon .
  17. Luke warm water

Instructions

  1. Marinate cleaned washed fishes with pinch of turmeric and salt and shallow fry them in mustard oil and keep aside.
  2. Make paste of all dry spices along with sugar and salt to taste with 3 teaspoons luke warm water .
  3. Take a pan heat some mustard oil and temper it with nigella seeds.
  4. Now add chopped onions , garlic ginger paste , chopped tomatoes and slit green chillies , diced brinjals and mix all well for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Add paste of spices and cook in low flame for 2 minutes until brinjals are half cooked.
  6. Now add 1 cup of lukewarm water and bring it to boil .
  7. Add Fried fishes and cover the pan and cook for 3 minutes.
  8. Once done garnish it with raw one teaspoon of mustard oil and chopped coriander leaves.
  9. Serve hot with steam rice.
