ABOUT onion chutney. southindian delicacy RECIPE

it is good replacement of coconut chutney and very easy to make. Serve this along with some dosa or idli.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. sambhar onion( pearl onion)-1/2cup
  2. onion- 1/2 cup
  3. red chilli-4-6 [according to personal taste]
  4. tamarind - 1 tbsp
  5. groundnut - 2tbsp
  6. oil - 1 tbsp
  7. Salt to taste
  8. For Tempering:
  9. curry leaves
  10. mustard seeds 1tsp/2tsp
  11. oil-1tbls

Instructions

  1. boil red chillies in water for 2-3 minutes and keep aside for 15 minutes. cool it.
  2. heat oil in a pan and sauté both the onions
  3. add groundnuts with onion and fry for 3-4minutes.
  4. cool it
  5. add tamarind, salt, red chillies and onions and grind in mixer to smooth paste.
  6. heat oil in a pan for tempting.
  7. add mustard seeds,when they crackle ,add curry leaves fry for 1 minute.
  8. mix it in chutney
  9. garnish with sautéed curry leaves .
