About Calcutta Prawn Cocktail Recipe

This is inspired by the legendary Prawn Cocktail served at Calcutta's restaurants of yore -- Mocambo and Skyroom. I got the basic recipe from the Calcutta Cookbook. And it's very filling.

Calcutta Prawn Cocktail

Ingredients to make Calcutta Prawn Cocktail

  • Prawns: 8 medium shelled
  • lemon rind: 1/2 tsp
  • peppercorns: 5-6
  • tomato juice: 1 cup
  • tomato Ketchup: 2 tbsp
  • Mayonnaise: 2 tbsp
  • Horseradish sauce: 1 tsp or Wasabi sauce
  • Black pepper powder: 1 tsp
  • spring onions:1 tbsp very finely minced
  • salt to taste
  • Tabasco sauce

How to make Calcutta Prawn Cocktail

  1. Boil shelled prawns with some lemon rind, a few peppercorns and some salt.
  2. Mix together tomato juice, spring onions, tomato ketchup, mayonnaise, horseradish sauce and black pepper. Mix the prawns in. Check the taste. add more ketchup or mayonnaise if required.
  3. Refrigerate till well chilled. Mix a few drops of tabasco sauce before serving in seperate glasses or bowls.
