ABOUT Sambhar Masala RECIPE

Sambhar is a very famous south Indian dish and is one of the favorite cuisines all over India. A real blend of all authentic spices rightfully satisfies the taste buds. A must try at home for main course dishes as it is simple, easy and super tasty.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Arhar dal 1 cup
  2. Chopped vegetables ( pumpkin, bottlegourd, beans, carrots, brinjal) 1 big bowl
  3. Tomatoes 2 medium sized chopped
  4. Onion 1 big chopped
  5. Dry spices- turmeric 1/2 teaspoon, coriander powder 1/4 teaspoon, red chilli powder 1/4 tea spoon, sambhar masala powder 2 tea spoon.
  6. Tamarind pulp 1 tablespoon
  7. Lime juice 1 Teaspoon
  8. Salt according to taste
  9. For tadka- hing, mustard seeds(raai), dry redchillies, curry leaves, lemon extract.


  1. Soak arhar dal for 15 minutes. Then pressure cook all vegetables and arhar dal with 2 cups water, salt and turmeric powder for 5 to 6 whistles.
  2. Nicely mash all vegetables and arhar daal using hand blender so that no vegetable is visible. Add water if required to maintain consistency.
  3. Take a deep bottom pan, heat mustard oil at high flame till smoky, lower the flame and add hing, mustard seeds, dry red chillies and curry leaves and add lime juice.
  4. Put onions and saute till translucent, add ginger garlic paste and saute for another 2 minutes.
  5. Add tomatoes and saute till water evaporates and it becomes thicker.
  6. Now add all pressure cooked dal and vegetables into it and mix well.
  7. Add all dry spices and tamarind pulp and saute for 1-2 minutes and simmer.
  8. Adjust salt according to taste. Garnish it with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with dosa /idli/rice.
