Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Good sized Karela /bitter gaurd 4nos
  2. Onions 1 medium sized finely chopped
  3. Tomato 1 small sized finely chopped
  4. Fennel seeds 1/2tsp
  5. Coriander powder 2tsp
  6. Cumin powder 2tsp
  7. Aamchoor powder 2tsp
  8. Red chilli powder 1tsp
  9. Turmeric powder 1/2tsp
  10. Mustard oil 5-6tblspn
  11. salt as per taste


  1. Wash the karela and slightly peel off them. Make a long slit on each karela vertically.
  2. Take some water into a dish and bring it to boil. Add 1tsp of salt to this boiling water and put the karelas into it. Boil it on medium flame for 5mins till the karela becomes little soft.
  3. Take out the seeds and other things from inside through the slits you made. As it's boiled now, it'll be easy to remove. Keep the seeds.
  4. In a pan, take 3tablespoon of mustard oil and add 1/2 tsp of fennel seeds to it. As it crackles, add chopped onions and tomatoes to it.
  5. Add the karela seeds you kept and all the spices to this mixture and fry it on medium flame for few minutes.
  6. Cool this mixture and stuff it into each karela.
  7. Stir fry these stuffed karelas in mustard oil untill golden brown. Seal the stuffed karela before frying using toothpicks to prevent it from opening.
  8. Your dish is ready to be served hot with roti or rice however you like...
