This recipe is a variation of one of Sanjeev Kapoor recipe. The original recipe is slightly different.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Chicken 500 gms
  2. Dahi 200 gms or 1 1/2 cup
  3. One large onion
  4. 4 medium tomatoes
  5. Turmeric powder
  6. Chili powder
  7. Chicken masala.
  8. Salt
  9. Mustard oil 3tbsp
  10. 2 tej patta and small piece of dalchini
  11. For paste:
  12. 1 tbsp cumin seeds
  13. 1 tbsp whole coriander
  14. Small piece of nutmeg
  15. 4 cloves
  16. Dalchini one inch
  17. Two elaichi
  18. Ginger one inch
  19. One garlic


  1. Wash and drain the chicken.
  2. Make fine paste of the ingredients mentioned.
  3. Marinate the chicken with 3/4 of curd and half the paste. Add half tbsp haldi and a tsp of Chili powder and chicken masala . Keep for one hour.
  4. Blanch the tomatoes and remove skin. Puree and keep aside.
  5. Heat oil add tejpatta and dalchini.
  6. Finely slice the onion and add to the oil. Fry till golden.
  7. Add the remaining masala paste.
  8. Fry well till they leave oil. Add half tbsp haldi and half tbsp chili powder and mix. Add the chicken along with the marination.
  9. Mix and cover.
  10. Mix in between to prevent burning from bottom. Add salt. Mix.
  11. Add the remaining curd mix well and cover. When the masala is fried well add the tomatoe pure. Mix everything nicely. Cover for few minutes. Stir and add cup of water. Bring to a boil and cook for five minutes. Switch off and let the curry sit for five minutes.
  12. Serve hot with Roti or rice.
