ABOUT Crispy squid with a Tangier crumb RECIPE

This super easy appetiser is sure to make any seafood lover (and even some haters maybe) very happy ! Sprig's unique Tangier spice blend in both the simple marinade and in the flour crumb gives the squid a double shot of Mediterranean appeal.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 200 grams fresh squid ( about 5 to 6 small squid)
  2. For the marinade :
  3. 1 1/2 teaspoon Tangier spice blend
  4. 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  5. 1/4 teaspoon lime juice
  6. Salt to taste ( i used 1/2 teaspoon)
  7. For the crumb coating :
  8. 1/4 cup all purpose flour or maida
  9. 1 teaspoon Tangier spice blend
  10. 1/4 teaspoon baking powder (optional)
  11. Pinch of salt
  12. Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Clean the squid and slice into rings of 1 cm thickness
  2. Add the marinade ingredients ( salt, lime juice , Tangier blend and pepper ) and mix well. Let rest for 15 minutes
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the crumb coating ingredients ( flour, baking powder , salt and Tangier blend)
  4. Add the marinated squid and mix well so that all the squid are coated well with the flour mixture
  5. Heat a couple of inches of oil in a small wok or frying pan over medium flame. Fry the squid in one or two batches until golden brown . It will take 3 to 5 minutes..
  6. Remove from oil and drain excess oil off on a kitchen towel or tissue. Serve hot with mayonnaise or your choice of dipping sauce
