ABOUT Paruppu Adai Dosai RECIPE

Adai is a popular breakfast snack or tiffin from the cuisine of Tamil Nadu. A mixture of various dals soaked and ground together with rice and spices to create a batter, that is cooked into thick pancakes. It is a very simple recipe yet very delicious, healthy and nutritious. This dish is commonly known as Adai Dosai in southern India and is served with coconut chutney. I tried different ways of making adai dosai but I was very impressed with the taste one which my mother suggested. I can assure that this will come out really good.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. -Idly rice (Makes around 10 to 12 dosas) 1 cup
  2. Raw rice 1/2 cup
  3. Channa dhal 1/2 cup
  4. ½ cup –Thuvaram paruppu (toor dhal)
  5. Yellow moong dhal 1/2 cup
  6. Whole urad dhal 1/4 cup
  7. Red chilli’s 6 to 10 no
  8. Onion chopped 1 no
  9. Jeera (cumin seeds) 1 tablespoon
  10. Chopped coriander leaves 1 tablespoon
  11. Chopped curry leaves 1 tablespoon
  12. Asafoetida (hing) 1 pinch


  1. Wash and soak the raw rice and idly rice together for at least 6 hours.
  2. Soak all the lentils are given above.
  3. After 6 hrs grind coarsely the soaked items along with red chilies,onion,jeera,coriander leaves,curry leaves,hing. Add water to make it to a dosa batter consistency.
  4. Now adai dosa batter is ready. Heat a dosa tawa and spread the batter like we make for dosa. Drizzle oil and cook on both the sides till golden brown
  5. .Serve hot with coconut or spicy tomato chutney.
