ABOUT Just Falafel RECIPE

Falafels are very popular Middle Eastern snacks which can be either had as an appetizer with hummus or as a main course inside pita breads and salads. They can also be wrapped in parathas for a super wrap meal. Try serving them with some green chutney instead, a la Indian style. I sometimes make Indian chaat / Falafel Kadhi / Kofta Curry with the leftover falafels.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. 1/2 cup kabuli chana (white chick peas), soaked overnight
  2. salt to taste
  3. 2 tbsp. coriander leaves, chopped
  4. 3-4 garlic cloves, chopped
  5. 1 onion, chopped
  6. 1-2 green chilies, chopped
  7. 1 tbsp. dry roasted coriander-cumin powder
  8. 1/2 tsp. pepper powder
  9. 1/2 tsp. red chili powder
  10. a pinch of baking soda
  11. 2 tbsp. maida
  12. 1 tsp. lime juice
  13. oil to deep fry

Instructions

  1. Blend together all the above mentioned ingredients (except oil) without adding any water.
  2. Make small equal size balls out of the dough and refrigerate for an hour.
  3. Heat oil in a pan and fry the falafels in batches in low flame till light golden brown in colour.
  4. Drain on a kitchen towel and serve hot as a snack with hummus or with pita bread and salad.
