Deliciously yum all time favourite maharashtrian speciality, must on any celebration. Soft silky smooth polis stuffed with chana dal and jeggary puran flavoured with nutmeg and cardamom powder .

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Chana dal 2 cups
  2. Jeggary chopped 1 and 1/2 cups
  3. Pinch of turmeric powder
  4. nutmeg powder 1 teaspoon
  5. cardamom powder 1/4 th teaspoon
  6. ghee for shallow frying (as per requirement)
  7. maida 2 cups
  8. oil 1 tablespoon
  9. Pinch of salt
  10. Milk 1 cup


  1. Wash and soak chana dal in sufficient water for half an hour
  2. Add pinch of Turmeric powder and pressure cook till soft
  3. Allow it cool and then grind the cooked dal in to a smooth puree
  4. Add jeggary and nutmeg powder in pureed dal
  5. Cook dal mixutre on low heat till thickens, with consistent Stirring and turning frequently
  6. When puran or stuffing gets thickened, switch off the heat and add cardamom powder.
  7. Ready puran.
  8. In a mixing bowl take maida, a pinch of salt and oil. Mix well and knead a soft dough using milk. keep it aside for some time and then knead it again to smoothen the dough
  9. Take tennis ball size dough, roll it little and keep sufficient amount of Puran in the middle
  10. Seal it from all sides
  11. Dust with some flour and roll out a thin chapati
  12. Heat tawa and lightly cook poli from both sides
  13. Add ghee and shallow fry puran poli from both sides till golden in colour
  14. Pour some more ghee in puran poli and serve hot or cold
