ABOUT Spinach Masiyal RECIPE

Palak masiyal is a traditional South Indian recipe which can be consumed with plain white rice and rotis.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Palak 1 bundle(small) cleaned
  2. Shallots (pearl onions) - 7
  3. Garlic cloves 2
  4. Cumin seeds 1/2 teaspoon
  5. Green chili 1
  6. 1/4 lemon sized Tamarind
  7. Mustard seeds 1 teaspoon
  8. urad dal 1 teaspoon
  9. Dry red chili 1
  10. Coconut oil 2 teaspoon
  11. 1 sprig Curry leaves for garnishing
  12. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Boil 1 cup of water with little salt . Add palak to it and simmer for three minutes.
  2. Strain in a colander and keep the water aside
  3. Heat 1/2 tsp oil in a pan. Add shallots, green chili, cumin, garlic and tamarind and roast for five minutes.
  4. Add palak , mix well and switch off . Allow to cool completely
  5. Grind the palak mixture in a mixer grinder with saved boiled palak water.
  6. Heat leftover oil in a wok, Splutter mustard seeds, dry red chili and urad dal.
  7. Pour the seasoning to the palak curry. Garnish it with curry leaves.
  8. Serve hot
