ABOUT Saakh RECIPE

This is a typical Bengali veg recipe called Saakh made of spinach leaves along with fried brinjal and dry yellow gram/dal flitters.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Minced spinach 1.5 cups
  2. 2 small brinjals sliced
  3. 1 tsp chana dal
  4. chopped ginger 1 tsp
  5. 1 red dry chili
  6. fenugreek seeds 1/2 tsp
  7. salt 1 tsp
  8. turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  9. 2 green chilies
  10. oil 2 tbsp
  11. water as required

Instructions

  1. In a kadai heat oil and temper dry red chili and fenugreek seeds.
  2. Fry the brinjal until soft
  3. Add the finely chopped spinach , ginger, green chilies, salt and turmeric powder . Mix well
  4. Cook till the water of the leaves evaporates up
  5. Add little water and cook for 4-5 minutes over medium flame
  6. In a separate pan,saute chana dal until golden brown
  7. Add chana dal to saakh and mix well
  8. Switch off once the water evaporates completely
  9. Serve hot with plain rice
