Ingredients to make Kathi roll

  • all purpose flour (maida) - 1 cup
  • oil 1 tsp
  • salt to taste
  • A dash of water
  • 1 egg
  • 2-3 slices of onion
  • 1 green chilli
  • 3-4 slices of tomato
  • 3-4 slices of cucumber
  • 2 tsp lime
  • A dash of black pepper
  • 1 tsp tomato ketchup
  • 1 tsp chilli sauce
  • 1 tsp mustard sauce

How to make Kathi roll

  1. Make a smooth dough with the flour, 1 teaspoon oil, a pinch of salt and water as required. Let the dough rest covered for half an hour.
  2. Now make 4 balls with the dough. (Note that they should be bigger than the chappati dough balls.)
  3. Roll out each dough ball like a roti. Apply oil on top and roll it inside again and make a ball. Now once again roll out the dough ball. This procedure will make your kathi roll flaky. Now beat eggs with a pinch of salt, one for each kathi roll.
  4. Heat a big flat tawa. Put one roti at a time and cook both sides applying a little oil on both sides. Remove it.
  5. Now take little oil on tawa and pour in the beaten egg. Immediately cover it with your cooked roti. Cook it for a minute and remove.
  6. Place the cooked egg paratha on a plate. Put the finely sliced onion, cucumber and green chillies in the middle of the paratha.
  7. Sprinkle salt and pepper. Squeeze some lime juice. Add a little tomato ketchup, chilli sauce and mustard sauce. Fold the paratha like a roll and wrap a paper/foil outside covering half of the kathi roll.
  8. Serve the kathi roll hot with salad and sauce on the side.
