ABOUT Potato in curd gravy RECIPE

make this dahi aloo as a quick side gravy dish to go with chapatis or steamed rice. you just need to boil the potatoes and preparing the sauce does not take much time.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 300 gm potato
  2. 11/2cup curd
  3. 8/9 Curry leaves
  4. 1/2 tsp cumin seed
  5. 1/2 Tsp frenkugreek seeds
  6. 1 pinch heeng
  7. 1Tsp.red chilli powder
  8. 1/2 Tsp.turmeric powder
  9. 1Tsp coriendar powder
  10. Salt
  11. 2 red chilli
  12. 2tbsp oil


  1. rinse and then boil/steam potatoes till they are completely cooked. 
  2. when the potatoes are still warm, peel them. crumble and keep aside
  3. in another bowl, take 1 cup fresh curd/yogurt And 1cup water and whisk till smooth.
  4. in a pan heat oil and add heeng , curry leaves , cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds and saute till they crackle .
  5. add 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, 1/4 tsp red chili powder and 1/2 tsp coriander powder.
  6. now add the crumbled potatoes. stir and saute for about 2 minutes. keep the flame to a low and then add half cup water and allow it to boil.. when water starts boiling add curd mixture. as soon as you add the curd mixture, stir quickly. stir and mix very well. simmer dahi aloo gravy for 8 to 10 minutes on a low flame. Add salt and cook for few more minutes till you get right consistency
  7. Dahi alu is ready to serve with rice or chapati..
