ABOUT Bhaidku ( spicy poridge ) RECIPE

Bhaidku is Gujarati word for spicy porridge. It can be made with many different grains. Bajri bhaidku is popular so the ready-made flour is often available. We can prepare various kinds of combinations. This one is made from mixed grains. You can give 6+ month baby

Ingredients Serving: 1

  1. 2 cups rice
  2. ½ cup bajra
  3. ½ cup jawar
  4. ½ cup mung dal
  5. ½ cup muth/mutki /moth
  6. For Bhaidku
  7. 1 cup water
  8. a few ajwain seeds
  9. a pinch asafoetida (hing)
  10. soy or groundnut buttermilk
  11. ginger chili paste (optional)
  12. Salt to test
  13. black pepper to taste
  14. coriander for garnish

Instructions

  1. For Flour All the above ingredients are put in a dry grinder and made into a coarse flour which can be stored.
  2. For Bhaidku Take 3 tbsp of flour, roast for a few minutes. Add 1 cup water and a few ajwain seeds to taste. Cook for about 7 minutes.
  3. When cooked ,add groundnut or soy buttermilk to get the consistency of a porridge. Mix well. Add salt and ginger, chili paste if desired, asafoetida, a and black pepper.
  4. Cook for 3 more minutes. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves. Makes a good breakfast for babis, and new mothers
