ABOUT Rava Pongal RECIPE

Rava pongal is made with sooji (Semolina) and moong dal, cooked with pepper, jeera, ginger and green chilli. It is a very healthy and nutricious food

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Rava/ semolina – 1/2 cup
  2. Moong dal – 4 tablespoons
  3. Curry leaves-1sprig
  4. Black pepper-5 to 6(crushed)
  5. Cumin seeds-1teaspoon
  6. Cashew nuts-10
  7. Salt to taste
  8. Turmeric powder-1/2teaspoon(optional)
  9. Ghee-1tablespoon
  10. Water-3/4cup+ 1 1/2 cup

Instructions

  1. Wash moong dal and soak into 3/4cup for 15 minutes,then boil it with this water in a pressure cooker until 5 whistles
  2. Let the vapour of cooked release as it own
  3. Dry roast sooji or rava in a pan,renive from heat and keep them aside
  4. Add ghee in that pan
  5. Add cashews,fry until light brown and remove from pan
  6. Add cumin seeds,curry leaf,crushed black pepper
  7. Add 1.5 cup water,let the water bring to boil,when the water will start boiling,simmer the gas
  8. Add rava or sooji in batches
  9. Add cooked moong dal
  10. Add salt and turmeric powder
  11. Mix rava or sooji with moong dal
  12. Cover with lid and cook until sooji or rava ia cooked or 3/4th water dried up
  13. Switch off the gas and serve with hot sambar and coconut chutney
