ABOUT Curry Leaves Podi.... RECIPE

A super spicy and tangy instantly made podi from the curry leaves that are full of vitamins and Iron. It helps function heart better and enlivens hair and skin. Packed with so much of natural goodness, these leaves are a great boon. This podi made with them is a perfect accompaniment to dosas, idlis, pooris and even plain boiled rice.

Ingredients Serving: 10

  1. Curry leaves 1 cup
  2. Salt 1 tsp
  3. Dry red chillies 3 or 4
  4. Coriander seeds 1 tsp
  5. Cumin seeds 1 tsp
  6. Garlic cloves chopped 2
  7. Lemon juice 3 tbsp
  8. Bengal gram or chana dal 2 tbsp
  9. Oil 1 tbsp


  1. Wash and spread the curry leaves on a kitchen towel to dry.
  2. They should not be wet.
  3. Heat oil and add cumin seeds at first.
  4. After a minute, add chopped garlic and the rest of the spices.
  5. Saute all these for one more minute until garlic is done.
  6. The bengal gram should also be roasted well.
  7. Now add curry leaves to it.
  8. Saute these until crisp.
  9. Keep the flame on low only.
  10. Switch off after 4 to 5 minutes of sauteeing.
  11. Let it cool and then grind to a powder.
  12. Store this tasty podi in the refrigerator for about a month.
  13. Keep it in an airtight container.
  14. Serve this with a tablespoon of ghee and plain boiled rice. This combo is heavenly.
  15. You can heat a tablespoon of this podi with an equal quantity of ghee and serve with rice.
