Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Rice, uncooked, 1/2 cup
  2. Chana dal 1/4 cup
  3. Red chilli powder 1/4 tsp
  4. Green chilli 2
  5. turmeric powder 1/4 tso
  6. cumin powder 1/4 tsp
  7. ginger garlic paste 1/2 tsp
  8. salt to taste
  9. Cooking soda 1 pinch
  10. oil to fry


  1. Soak the rice and Chana dal for 5-6 hours or overnight
  2. Drain water and grind this soaked mixture till smooth. (add water till the mixture resembles dosa batter or pancake mix)
  3. In a bowl, add chopped green chillies, ginger garlic paste, turmeric, cumin, red chilli powder and salt to taste
  4. Add a pinch of baking soda
  5. Cover and keep aside for 10-15 mins
  6. Heat oil in a kadhai till it is medium hot. (drop a bit of mixture in oil to check. It should take about 5 secs to come up)
  7. Drop mixture in a single motion using a small ladle spoon.
  8. Let it puff up. Then fry by tossing till brown on both sides. Keep the heat on medium
  9. Serve hot with black Chana or chhole for an authentic meal.
