Idli Sambhar

Ingredients to make Idli Sambhar

  • For idli...i have used readymade batter..1/2kg
  • For sambhar..arhar daal..1 cup
  • Kari patta
  • mustard seeds..1 sp
  • methi dana..1/2 sp
  • salt to taste
  • turmeric powder..1/2 sp
  • Whole red chilli..2
  • oil..1 tbsp
  • Mix veggies..carrot,raddish,pumpkin, onion
  • Chopped tomatoes..2
  • Sambhar powder..2sp
  • red chilli powder.. 1/2 sp
  • tamarind..small ball size

How to make Idli Sambhar

  1. For idli I have used readymade batter...But batter can be prepared at home by soaking dhuli urad daal and rice for 2 hours and then grinding to padte and overnight fermentation.
  2. Make idli in idli stand by pouring a tbsp of batter in each stand and steaming for 10 minutes.
  3. Fir sambhar..Wash and soak arhar daal.
  4. Boil it till 3 whistles. Add methi dana,salt and turmeric powder while boiling.
  5. Soak tamarind in water.
  6. Cut veggies length wise.
  7. Take a pan or kadai,add oil.
  8. Add mustard seeds and chopped onions,saute it.
  9. Add other veggies with tomatoes and tamarind pulp.
  10. Add sambhar powder.
  11. Cover with lid and let veggies cook.
  12. When cooked,add boiled daal in veggies,add water and mix it.
  13. Let it cook for nearly half an hour.
  14. Then prepare tempering.
  15. Take oil in a wok,add oil.
  16. Then add mustard seeds,whole red chilli and red chilli powder.
  17. Add this tempering to the sambhar.
  18. For serving, take a plate, add sambhar and idli...Enjoy hot.

My Tip:

Add drumstic if you like it.
