ABOUT Rawa pongal RECIPE

A traditional Tamil nadu breakfast dish .usually made with rice & dal. but this is equally tasty & easy to make also. goes well with chutney or sambar.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. rawa 1 cup
  2. moong dal 1 cup
  3. mustard seeds 1/4 tsp
  4. jeera 2 pinch
  5. urud dal 1/4 tsp.
  6. cashew nuts 2 tbsp
  7. green chillies 2 chopped
  8. ginger a small piece chopped
  9. curry leaves a few
  10. oil or ghee 2 tbsp
  11. salt
  12. turmeric powder 2 pinch.
  13. grated coconut 1/2cup

Instructions

  1. Dry roast rawa & dal separately .
  2. cook dal in a pressure cooker with 1 cup water & salt.
  3. when dal is cooked add 2 cups of water in the cooker. add enough salt & turmeric powder. let it boil.
  4. then add rawa. stir well on a low fire. if u want to make it dry u can keep for some more time. or if u wa nt it in semi liquid form u can do it.
  5. heat a small kadai with 2 tbsp of ghee or oil.
  6. put mustard seeds , jeera, urud dal ,& cashew nuts. fry for sometime till nuts are fried.
  7. then put green chillies & ginger & curry leaves. fry till done.
  8. add the tadka to the rawa dal mixture. stir well.
  9. add grated coconut & stir well.
  10. serve hot with chutney or sambar.
