ABOUT Sesame Rice RECIPE

Sesame seeds are used in many recipes in Indian cuisine and this sesame rice is made with sesame seeds and freshly roasted Indian spices. Make this powder for making the rice and whenever needed just mix with boiled rice and enjoy the rice and its health benefits. The health benefits of sesame seeds are due to their nutritional content, including vitamins, minerals, natural oils, and organic compounds which consist of calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorous, manganese, copper, zinc, fiber, thiamin, vitamin B6, folate, protein, and tryptophan.

Ingredients Serving: 10

  1. For Sesame Powder:
  2. Black Sesame seeds 100 gms
  3. coriander Seeds 1 table spoon
  4. Chana dal and Urad dal 2 tea spoons each
  5. pepper 2 tea spoons
  6. Red chillies 10
  7. salt to taste
  8. Jagerry powder 1 table spoon
  9. tamarind goose berry size
  10. For making Sesame Rice:
  11. Boiled rice
  12. mustard and urad dal for seasoning
  13. peanuts
  14. ghee 2 table spoons
  15. curry leaves

Instructions

  1. Heat a pan and dry roast coriander seeds, dals, pepper and red chillies in medium flame till the dals turn golden colour. Transfer them to a bowl.
  2. Now roast the sesame seeds separately till they splutter well and add it to the roasted stuff.
  3. Add a tea spoon of oil and fry tamarind for 5 minutes in low flame and add to the other roasted stuff.
  4. After they get cooled down , add salt, Jaggery to them and grind to powder. Now the Powder for making the rice is ready. This can be stored in large quantity.
  5. For making rice, in a wide bowl spread some boiled rice and allow to get cooled down. Add required quantity of powder to it.
  6. In a sauteing pan, heat ghee and add mustard, urad dal, curry leaves and peanuts. Once they turn roasted, add tot he rice. Mix gently.
  7. Now serve or pack for lunch box with any raitha.
