ABOUT Dates Chutney..... RECIPE

An amazingly sweet, spicy and a tangy chutney with so many flavours infused in it. The spices like cloves and cinnamon add a distinct touch to it. Use it as a spread on sandwiches or on innumerable chaats, the list is endless. This chunky chutney is best made with dates because the natural sweetness of them makes it so delectable.

Ingredients Serving: 10

  1. Mejdool dates pitted 300 gms
  2. Cloves 6
  3. Cinnamon stick 1
  4. Salt 1/2 tsp
  5. Oil 2 tbsp
  6. Brown sugar 2 tbsp
  7. Lemon juice 3 tbsp
  8. Water 2 cups

Instructions

  1. Tie the cinnamon stick and the cloves in a muslin cloth with a kitchen string.
  2. In a cooking pot, heat oil and saute the dates for a minute or two.
  3. Add the muslin cloth to it along with the sugar and water.
  4. Bring it to a boil at first and then simmer for about 15 to 20 minutes until soft.
  5. Add lemon juice and adjust salt according to taste.
  6. Discard the muslin cloth.
  7. Blend all that nicely into a semi solid chutney.
  8. Store it in a sterilised glass jar and use accordingly for more than a month.
