Ingredients to make Paruppu Podi / Kandi Podi

  • Toor dal - 1/2 cup
  • Fried gram dal - 1/2 cup
  • jeera - 1/2 tsp
  • peppercorns -1/2 tsp
  • Dried Red chillies -10
  • Kashmir chillies - 2
  • salt - To taste
  • Compound asafoetida - 1/2 tsp
  • oil -1 tsp

How to make Paruppu Podi / Kandi Podi

  1. *Heat oil in a kadai fry the compound asafoetida,keep it aside.In same pan dry roast the both chillies and keep it aside.
  2. Then fry the toor dal in low flame until it turns golden brown.Then roast the gram dal,jeera,pepper one by one.
  3. Once the mixture is cool down ,first grind the chillies and salt in mixie.Then grind the other ingredients a coarse powder.
  4. Once the podi cools down completely store it in a airtight container.

My Tip:

If you wish you can add garlic and curry leaves too.
