About Sweet potato Dabeli Recipe

Tasty and delicious Dabeli, one of the most popular street foods can be very easily made at home . Dabeli is like a sandwich where stuffing is usually a spicy potato mixture with different chutneys, sev, peanuts and pomegranate seeds. I prefer sweet potatoes instead of regular potatoes for 2 reasons .Firstly sweet potato is considered more healthy as they contain good amount of fiber and other nutrients compared to regular potatoes. Second point is Traditional dabeli is spicy but tastes slightly sweet also. By using sweet potato you get that perfect taste without adding sugar .

Sweet potato Dabeli

Ingredients to make Sweet potato Dabeli

  • 1/2 kg Sweet potatoes
  • 2 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon Dabeli masala
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Dry mango powder
  • salt as per taste
  • 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/8 teaspoon asafoetida
  • 1/2 cup roasted peanuts
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup pomegranate seeds
  • 1/2 cup fine Sev
  • 1/2 cup mint chutney
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 8 Pav / Buns
  • 2 teaspoon butter

How to make Sweet potato Dabeli

  1. Cook peeled Sweet potatoes in pressure cooker or microwave oven adding minimum water.
  2. Grate cooked sweet potatoes and keep aside
  3. Fry peeled peanuts in oil and keep aside
  4. Add asafoetida ,Turmeric powder, Ginger-garlic paste to hot oil and saute.
  5. Add 1/2 cup water, dabeli masala, red chili powder, salt, Dry mango powder and saute
  6. Now add grated sweet potato
  7. Mix well and cook for a minute on low flame
  8. Cut pav /bun into two slices and smear with Mint chutney and tomato sauce
  9. Stuff it generously with the sweet potato mixture.
  10. Top it with spoonful of chopped onion, fried peanuts, sev and pomegranate seeds.
  11. Roll dabeli in sev
  12. Melt a spoon of Butter and roast dabeli on both sides and serve hot with tomato sauce or mint chutney.
