About Kadgi Chakko(Raw tender Jackfruit in Dry coconut curry) Recipe

Traditional and most loved dishes from Konkani Community of Mangalore.Cooked raw jackfruit (called "Kadgi"in konkani) is shredded and cooked in mildly spiced coconut based masala ,tinged with corriander seeds,red chillies some jaggery too.So sumptuous with white steamed rice ,Just loved it!

Ingredients to make Kadgi Chakko(Raw tender Jackfruit in Dry coconut curry)

  • 11/2 cup Raw Jackfruit pieces
  • 1 tblspn corriander powder
  • 2 spns coconut oil
  • 1/2;coconut shredded or powder as available
  • 3-4 red chillies Roasted
  • 1/2 tspn tamarind paste optional
  • curry leaves
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tspn mustard seeds
  • 1tspn or 2 jaggery or brown sugar

How to make Kadgi Chakko(Raw tender Jackfruit in Dry coconut curry)

  1. Pressure cook or boil Raw jackfruit pieces for 2 whistles or 7-10 minutes on slow
  2. Gently shred or break it into large shreds as we like chunks sure
  3. Have all ingredients around as shown above
  4. In a sauce pan now roast the red whole chillies in little oil
  5. Add these to mixer jar
  6. Add corriander powder,coconut as available too
  7. Grind to a coarse paste with little water
  8. Heat rest of the oil in a pan add mustard seeds and curry leaves too
  9. As the above splutter add the ground masala and jaggery ,saute 2-3 minutes
  10. Clean the mixer jar of ground masala with some water too and add to the saute masala
  11. Add the shred Jackfruit now
  12. Mix well fold into the masala well ,cook now,5 minutes covered
  13. If it's drying add little water again,remove lid and remove from flame
  14. Cook steamed rice and serve the Kadgi Chakko with this

My Tip:

If possible use grind whole masalas roasted in oil, but I used ground as available with me
