ABOUT Dahi Handi Chicken..... RECIPE

A super easy and equally super delicious chicken recipe from Hyderabad City. Done in so very easily and is a great variation for an awesome chicken based dish. Goes well with the authentic baghara chawal as a main course. It can also be relished with naans. Gorgeous colour comes due to the kashmiri red chilli powder. Happy Cooking !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Chicken bone-in 1 kg
  2. Ginger garlic paste 1 1/2 tbsp
  3. Salt 1 tbsp
  4. Yoghurt 400 gm
  5. Red chilli powder 2 tbsp
  6. Turmeric 1 tsp
  7. Roasted cumin powder 1 tbsp
  8. Roasted coriander powder 1 tbsp
  9. Garam masala 1 tsp
  10. Onions sliced big 3
  11. Curry powder 1 tbsp
  12. Caraway seeds 1 tsp
  13. Oil 5 tbsp
  14. Coriander leaves finely chopped 1/2 cup

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a cooking pot.
  2. Add onions and saute until translucent on a low to medium high heat.
  3. Add the rest of the rest of the spices and the beaten yoghurt to well cleaned chicken.
  4. Mix well and set aside until the onions get fried.
  5. After 5-8 minutes of sauteeing the onions, add the marinated chicken.
  6. Simmer on low heat at first so that the yoghurt does not curdle.
  7. After 5 minutes of simmering on low, increase the heat to medium high.
  8. Cover and cook until tender for about 20 to 25 minutes. Do not stir it harshly. Stir with light hands to prevent breaking of chicken pieces.
  9. Open the lid and saute until oil starts floating on top.
  10. Consistency should be medium thick. There is no need to add water as yoghurt leaves a lot of it while cooking.
  11. Adjust salt and garnish with chopped coriander.
  12. Serve hot with baghara chawal or naan.
